Clydesdale Horses

Page Last Updated: 17 August 2010

Listed below are all mares in order of age. The photo's are of the horses in paddock condition and no bath - so please excuse any dirty bits on them.

As we progress with building and improving the web site, we'll endeavour to take better photo's.   Enjoy!

Kuldene Susan  (born 10.11.87)

Photo taken 24 Jan 2007

Susan is our 'old lady' or nanna as we affectionately call her.  Susie will be 23 years old in November and is the last remaining daughter (we beleive) of Kuldene Judith, the foundation mare for Shiralee Clydesdale Stud.

Susan is a big beautiful Strawberry Roan mare, who is as quiet as a horse can get.  Susan is a loving mother to her foals, baby sits for other mares and rears orphan foals.

All in all she is a true asset to our stud.

Sparkie Baxter (born  1990)

Photo taken 25 April 2007

Sparkie is our last  non-Clydesdale brood mare and will remain with us as she has earnt a special place in our hearts. Spakie has been on Shiralee farm for since 2001, when she was purchased for a brood mare. At the same time we were tryng to find a new showjump horse for Alex.

Unable to find a suitable steed, we turned to look in our own paddocks and decided to see if Spakie showed any ability as a jumper.  So after 3 weeks of being at home (and running with the stallion), we decided to throw a saddle on her.

For the next 6 months Alex enjoyed sucess in the show jump arena as Spake flew around the course clearing up to 90cm  with a ten year old kid on her back. Seven months from when we first bought her,  she was showing no signs of pregnancy and looked as fit and as shiny as any race horse could, but we needed to make sure she was not in foal.

Off to the vet for a pregnancy test.  When we were asked how far along we thought she may be, we answered 7 months.  The vet looked at her, then at us.  From just looking at her he said if there's a 7 month term pregnancy in there he would be very suprised.  A quick internal confirmed a 7 month term pregnancy - we were all in shock.  Even the vet said, "I don't know how she's hiding it, but it's there alright".

Spakie was put back in the breeder paddock after a very short but successful show jumping career.  Her foals are outstanding and they are always chosen first from the mob.

We reckon she's a keeper, she's a beautiful caring loving nature, highly fertile, a good mum and can jump as well - what more do you want in a cross bred!

Shiralee My Lady (dob 10/09/08)

03/10/08 - one month

28/03/2010

'Mya' is also proving to have fantastic confirmation - this has to be attributed to their 'perfect' dad, Box Valley Matthew.  Mya is a little unsure of what colour she wants to become; born bay she is now a bay / grey / with dapples! She's very smokey looking!
