1996 Foal - Pegasus

Wow - his name should have been Lucky.

Pegasus (known by his current owners as Clyde) was very eager to enter into this world.  Born premature, Pegasus had all his whits about him but couldn't for the life of him stand.  His muscle tone just was not there.

We guided him to a standing position and milked his mum Sunshine.  Pegasus drank from the bottle like there was no tomorrow.

He was able to stand by himself after an hour or so, and could manage a step or two but that was it. When he lay down, he did so with a flop, but was unable to stand again without help.

For his follow feeds we fed him the bottle (with mum's milk) and slowly lured him towards her udder. After about the 3rd or 4th feed he would drink successfully from mum.  He needed help to stand for about the first 2 days of his life. 

We really have my cousin Justine to thank for his life, as she tende d to him on day 2 and 3 while I had to attend a work conference.
